Enlightenment from the Sichuan Earthquake

On 12th May 2008, an earthquake measuring 8 on the Richter scale hit Sichuan Province, toppling 350,000 people’s lives. It brought intensive levels of injuries: paralysis as a result of spinal cord injuries, syndromes and deformities induced by post-fracture infection were only a few of many. In order to escape and survive, many casualties caught in the debris needed immediate amputations. Among them, many were children and teenagers.

They will be facing a long and rough road of rehabilitation.

We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy for the destruction and loss of life caused by this devastating earthquake. Putting away our condolences, we must work together to fulfill the mission of Orthopaedics in an effective and sustainable manner, so as to aid the victims on their road to recovery.

Therefore, the Chinese Speaking Orthopaedic Society concentrated the power of all the Chinese elites around the globe, in order to make use of advanced technology and their experience to help the patients. We sincerely hope that we can develop this new assistance program within the specialized fields.

The Background and Objectives of Stand TALL

We strongly believe that it is not only their homes that the patients have to reconstruct, but also more immediately, their physical and psychological health.

The patients require a comprehensive rehabilitation program. Meanwhile, it is more important to strengthen their willpower so that they could overcome the difficulties and obstacles arise during rehabilitation. Therefore, the contribution and involvement of specialists from different fields are greatly appreciated and necessary, so as to make the wisest use of new technology and ideas to help the patients.
