There was a saying, ‘Everyone was born with talent’.  I had a true, in depth taste of it in my two-day stay in Sichuan.

Earthquake is a catastrophe that no one can escape. We were so tiny, even negligible when facing mother nature’s mighty power. All we left is adaption and reintegration if lucky to survive.

Nevertheless, people from Sichuan have not surrendered adversity.  Their iron-willed and unyielding spirit touched the nation and the world. I had played a visit to a patient’s home.  I am deeply impressed by a girl with her skill tying shoe belt with only one hand. This is a skill she gained by repetitive practice after earthquake.  She was a right-handed painter that won many awards before the earthquake.   The ruthless earthquake took away her right arm but this could not deprive her talent. Through numerous practice, she can now continue to paint many more paintings with her left hand.

Patients are indifference from us when they have prostheses. In fact, their smiles are more infective. As they regained hope in their lives with the assist of Stand TALL, they learnt to appreciate what they have ‘now’, and understand why it is called ‘present’.

Has earthquake really destroyed Sichuan? No! It is only an opportunity for people to show the world the real definition of persistence and endeavor.
