We promised to provide rehabilitation consultation and progress review for the patients every three months. Since most prostheses started to show wear and tear for many years of use, Stand TALL will also change the damaged parts and even replace it with a brand new prosthesis for the patients.  In some cases where stump bone regeneration affects the function of the prosthesis, surgeries will be arranged by us within Sichuan Province or even in Hong Kong, and rehabilitation progress will be followed up as the others.

Ongoing Outreach Services

Du Jiang Yan You Ai School is the first barrier-free school in Sichuan Province where most patients finished their primary and junior middle school. It would be inconvenient for some younger students and boarding students to go to Chengdu for rehabilitation training which is indispensable for those groups. Therefore, physiotherapists of Stand TALL have been providing individuals and group rehab-training on-site, in order to improve students’ daily self-caring and activity abilities while not influencing their studies.

Development of Rehabilitation Professionalism

book
Musculoskeletal Medicine and Rehabilitation - Website and Reference Book

To accelerate better development of orthopaedic  rehabilitation, Stand TALL has published Musculoskeletal Medicine and Rehabilitation on network platform and as a reference book in July 2015, in collaboration with People’s Medical Publishing House.  This is the first book for PMPH to include QR codes which link to more than 200 practical operational videos. To further facilitate search of content, an APP is also available for download.

Statistics and Assessment of Earthquake Patients

Since there are numbers of patients from 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, difficulties experienced during their rehabilitation and the result of their treatment are invaluable information for the future study of orthopaedic s and rehabilitation. Stand TALL has not only collected those data, but also quantified and assessed the change of function during rehabilitation process in order to construction statistics and summarize them as thesis.

We have submitted the abstract of the thesis to the 35th Annual Conference of Hong Kong Orthopaedic  Medical Association, and it has been successfully accepted. The statistics, experience and conclusions are not only reference to injury caring,  but also a significant leap in perfecting the current clinical procedure for post-disaster patients’ treatment and rehabilitation.

The Development of Rehabilitation Professionalism for Schools and Institute in Cooperation

People’s Hospital of Sichuan (PHS)

Under the requirement of the Central Government and the National Health and Family Planning Commission of Sichuan province, the People’s Hospital of Sichuan would have accomplished the rotational rehabilitation training for relevant professionals in their responsible areas within 5 years’ time from 2015. The PHS is in charge for 8 areas including Pan Zhi Hua, Luzhou, Deyang, Guangyuan, Mianyang, etc., altogether 88 institutes and organizations.  Preparation such as trainee name listing is now under way, and the first phase was estimated to commence by October, 2015. Simultaneously, the PHS has signed agreement for cooperation and communication with Hong Kong Medical Management Association in July 2015, to emphasize their attention in the development of rehabilitation science and to strengthen the concept of ‘Great Rehabilitation’ in training personnel and clinical practice.

Sichuan Medical University (SMU)

In 2011, Sichuan Medical University has set up rehabilitation courses for its students, and the first group of graduates left school in July 2015. The high employment rate of these graduates reflected the thirst for quality workforce in medical rehabilitation professions. Enrolment for such course in 2015 is estimated to be 100. In August 2014, the SMU has also come to an agreement with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, in professional medical rehabilitation personnel training and communication for the upcoming 5 years. The agreement aimed to improve academic level, teaching skills and facilities of the school to nurture more highly qualified graduates with solid theoretical basis in preclinical and clinical medicine, and with basic practical skills in rehabilitation medicine. This pool of talents is also expected to contribute to the development of medical rehabilitation in treatment, prevention, education and research in Sichuan.

North Sichuan Medical College (NSMC)

In order to cope with the challenge of rapid socio-economic growth and the aging population, and also to fulfill the social responsibility as the state-level regional medical center, the Nanchong municipal government has projected a piece of land of 3,000 acres in Xichong county to construct the Northeast Sichuan Rehabilitation Center which integrates medical, educational and aged caring functions in one. The project will be carried forward by NSMC, and is currently under feasibility and environmental impact assessment.

Sichuan Vocational College of Health and Rehabilitation (SVCHR)

Statistically, the employment rate of rehabilitation majored graduates in SVCHR is of 94% this year (until 1st July), most of whom were hired by Grade-B and above tertiary hospitals. By the end of 2014, SVCHR has kick-started to open courses in Ergotherapy Skill as Sub-major in collaboration with the Rehabilitation department of Chengdu Second People’s Hospital. The set-up of Rehabilitation major in March 2015 of SVCHR aims to educate students in a more oriented way to become professionals. The enrolment in rehabilitation major for the next 3 years is planned to be 220.
